We Rock Workshop

We are looking for interested young people to participate in the We Rock Workshop. Applications are being accepted from young adults (ages 14-21) across Allegheny County who are currently or formerly involved with the Department of Human Services Foster or Independent Living Programs. If you are interested in making music, listening to music, and performing then the We Rock Workshop is for you. This is a great opportunity to express yourself and to learn the reality of the music industry.

What the We Rock Workshop is all about: Liz Berlin (performer, recording artist, entrepreneur, and educator) guides students through a study of songwriting, recording, performance and the music industry from the inside out. As a founding member of the multi-platinum band Rusted Root (formerly Island/Def Jam/Universal Music Group), Liz has gained much unique experience and insight to share with aspiring musicians. She will lead this program at Mr. Smalls Recording and Mastering Studio, guiding students to open up creatively through music, exploring the creation of music and looking into the future for ways to have musical meaning in their lives. The course culminates with the recording of original songs created by the participants and a final performance at Mr. Smalls Theatre. Each student will walk away with a CD of the song they collaborated on.

This program will involve three major components:

MUSIC COMPOSTION AND RECORDING WORKSHOP
At Mr. Smalls Recording Studio (922 West North Ave on the North Side of Pittsburgh)

DANCE AUDITIONS AND REHEARSALS
At 412 Youth Zone (6th floor of the Wood Street Commons downtown)

FINAL PERFORMANCE SHOWCASE
At Mr. Smalls Theatre (400 Lincoln Ave. in Millvale, PA)

Auditions will be held in the fall for anyone wishing to participate in the We Rock Workshop.

Classes will begin in the fall and will take place on Monday nights from 4:30 – 8:30 pm at Mr. Smalls Recording Studio on the North Side.
